ARML President's Letter to All Coaches - ARML 2011

Dear ARML Coach,

We welcome you with great pleasure to the 36th Annual American Region Mathematics League competition. This much anticipated event will take place concurrently on June 3rd and 4th, 2011 at University of Nevada at Las Vegas and on June 4th at Penn State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of Georgia.

Online registration is now open. You will be asked to create a new login and password for this year. When registering, you will be asked to provide the names of your teams, contact information for the coaches, time and day of arrival and departure, as well as the names of your students. You may edit your information up to the registration deadline of May 13, 2011. Registration will close promptly at 11:59:59 on May 13, 2011. Please make sure that the names that you submit are accurate. If changes must be made after the deadline has passed, your team may be assessed a "no-show" fee by the university. This charge could be as high as $25 per "no-show." In addition, the Head Coach of each team will be required to have the parent/guardian of each student who competes to complete a waiver. Any team that does not register and provide us with room-mates by May 13th may be penalized $50.

In 2010, there were 123 ARML teams and 3 International Teams who competed in the USA, and 16 teams who competed in the Off-Site IRML. At this time, we don’t have a finalized count besides the return of teams from Anne Rundel, MD and Nebraska. This serves to illustrate the importance and value placed on the ARML Competition. It is also a further reminder that ARML is viewed as a positive and rewarding experience for students, coaches, and parents.

It is strongly suggested that all teams carefully read The Competition Rules.

There will be an increase in fees this year of $10-$15 for all attendees.

Nine teams in Division A and seven teams in Division B will receive awards. The seven winning Division B teams will move to Division A for the next three years. If there aren’t any winning teams in Division A/B at a site then the highest scoring team will be a site winner.

A letter from Wolfram will be posted with further information on the ARML web site a week after the Competition. The letter will explain how students and coaches will receive “Mathematica”. Students can receive a one year license for “Mathematica” 8 and coaches can receive a six month license.

Texas Instrument will continue to award their newest calculators or software.

I want to wish all team’s good luck, and thank all the coaches for their dedication to their students and to ARML.
